PUK Code also known as ’Personal Unlocking Key’ is a security feature on most mobile devices that protects your SIM card data. A PUK code is only required when a SIM card or PIN code has been entered incorrectly. There are two ways one can get your PUK code, one through internet or over the phone.

Basically, if the wrong PIN is typed more than 3 times, either the SIM card or the device becomes locked. This can only be unlocked using the PUK code. Service operators generally provide them through verification. If you again type the PUK code incorrectly for the next 10 times in a row, the device will be blocked permanently and will be unrecoverable. Your SIM card will be of no use then. Mobile phone users are suggested to keep their PUK code written in a safer place to avoid accidents.

When ever the PUK code appears, we advice you not to experiment with it rather obtain it from your service provider. Once you enter the PUK code, you must set a pin. The PUK and PUK2 are used to unlock the PIN and PIN 2 codes respectively if your SIM card is blocked.

How Is PUK Code Required To Unlock Apple iPhone 4S

When your iPhone 4S shows “Locked SIM” instead of signal bars, it means your SIM card got locked and you need to make use or get a new PUK code. Firstly you need to get a PUK code which can be found out by logging in to your wireless account or by calling the Operator to get one.

1. Switch off the iPhone 4S – hold the button on top right for about 2 seconds.
2. Wait for around 5 seconds.
3. Switch ON the iPhone 4S using the same process.
4. On start up of the iPhone 4S will walk you on how to enter the PUK code.
5. Enter with care. iPhone 4S will ask you to repeat the procedure.
6. You are done. Take care on entering the code.

NOTE that if you input the PUK code incorrectly 10 times consecutively, the sim becomes useless and you will have to buy a new one.
